Description
A refined blend of heritage and modern minimalism, the Amba pillow cover features a rhythmic repeat of hand block printed paisley motifs in deep charcoal on natural linen. With its clean lines and subtle texture, this piece adds quiet sophistication to both traditional and modern spaces.
Provenance
The paisley motif – known as buta, kairi, or ambi in India – has a rich and layered history that spans continents and centuries. Originating in ancient Persia and India, the teardrop-shaped form has long symbolized fertility, abundance, and the interconnectedness of life. Traditionally handwoven into ceremonial and royal textiles, the motif made its way to Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries via Indian shawls. It became so beloved in the Scottish town of Paisley that the design took on its now-global name. Today, paisley remains a timeless icon—rooted in heritage yet endlessly adaptable to contemporary design.
Process
Each Amba cover is brought to life through the intricate craft of hand block printing, a centuries-old technique practiced by skilled artisans in India. Using hand-carved wooden blocks, artisans stamp the fabric with precision and care, one impression at a time. This hands-on process results in subtle variations in color and print, celebrating the beauty of the handmade and the human touch behind every piece.
